EVALUATE EXPERIENCES NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE PROFICIENCY IN ADVANCED FIBEROPTIC INTUBATION SKILLS ---CAN WE ACCELERATE THE LEARNING CURVE WITH SIMULATOR TRAINING? Xinyuan Duan December 1,2010 Fiberoptic intubation skills (FOI) are critical in reducing the anesthesia related morbidity and mortality in clinical settings. The purpose of the study was to prove that the simulator can train a novice to achieve the expert level in a relatively short time. The performance of the preand post-training of novice group and expert group was computer or video recorded. Three statistical methods were applied for data analysis. The number of airway collisions and the number of passes for oral and nasal were analyzed by a newly proposed maximum likelihood method. The development of this model is based on the assumption that the data follows a Poisson distribution. The total time to complete the procedure, the time to pass the oral and nasal, the time to train and re-train the novice group were analyzed by t-test and paired t-test. The questionnaire score and PasslFail score of both groups were analyzed by z-test. The results showed that the novice could reach the expert level after training.

The Impact of Training EFL Learners in Self-Regulation of Reading on their EFL Literal and Critical Reading Comprehension: Implementing a Model
Self-regulation is the ability to regulate one’s thoughts and actions to attain goals. Accordingly, self-regulated learning (SRL) involves plans and behaviors to achieve learning goals. With this in mind, in this study we investigated whether training English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners on the basis of a Self-regulated Learning (SRL) model improved their literal and critical reading co...

PURPOSE To define the time needed by urology residents to attain proficiency in computer-aided robotic surgery to aid in the refinement of a robotic surgery simulation curriculum. METHODS We undertook a retrospective review of robotic skills training data acquired during January 2012 to December 2014 from junior (postgraduate year [PGY] 2-3) and senior (PGY4-5) urology residents using the da ...

BACKGROUND With increasing pressure to use operating room time efficiently, opportunities for residents to learn fiberoptic orotracheal intubation in the operating room have declined. The purpose of this study was to determine whether fiberoptic orotracheal intubation skills learned outside the operating room on a simple model could be transferred into the clinical setting. METHODS First-year...
متن کاملDoes aptitude influence the rate at which proficiency is achieved for laparoscopic appendectomy?
BACKGROUND The attainment of technical competence for surgical procedures is fundamental to a proficiency-based surgical training program. We hypothesized that aptitude may directly affect one's ability to successfully complete the learning curve for minimally invasive procedures. The aim was to assess whether aptitude has an impact on ability to achieve proficiency in completing a simulated mi...

INTRODUCTION The vulnerability of children under 5 years old requires paying more attention to the health of this group. In the Iranian health care system, health workers are the first line of human resources for health care in rural areas. Because most health workers begin working in conditions with minimal facilities, their clinical qualifications are crucial. The aim of this study was to det...
